Gear Checklist

Here’s the list of items I always have with me when I’m on an extended camping trip in remote areas. This is going to include simply things that aren’t in the truck 24/7. Things like the winch, Gaia GPS, and other things won’t be on this list because those items and their accessories are in the truck already or on my person. To read about recovery gear and other such items, use the main menu to find “Tools and Accessories”, and see what I trust out in the sticks.

-Food: When out in the woods I like to keep it simple with things that can be fried, boiled, or cooked over an open fire. Some personal examples include eggs, canned vegetables, and hot dogs.

-Water: I bring 10 gallons of water with me.

Cooler: I bring a basic cooler and just fill it up with ice as necessary.

-Tents: I generally take at least 2 if not 3 tents with me. The tent I use is a 4-man Bushnell dome. In case others need a tent and also to have as backup, I have a Ozark Trail dome and an old 6-man castle of a tent.

Sleeping pad: I have a simple 6×2 sleeping pad just to separate myself from the cold ground.

-Sleeping bag: I have a 30 degrees rated sleeping bag

-Coleman Stove: I bring a two burner propane stove.

Awning: In case of rain I bring an awning to set up over the cooking area and/or tent.

Gas can: I also bring a 5 gallon filled gas can for emergencies

Chairs: I bring 6 folding camp chairs.

-Firewood: Whether for cooking or warmth I always bring some extra wood for a fire.

-Newspaper: I generally need a bit of help from newspaper to start the fire if there’s no immediate pine straw or equivalent kindling.

Walkie-Talkies: Two basic walkie talkies can make a world of difference in communication out in the woods.

-Extra socks and shoes/boots

Maxsa Innovation Escaper Buddies: I strap my traction boards to the Backrack I had installed to the Chevy.

-Jumpbox/Air compressor: I have an Everstart Maxx Jumpbox with an integrated air compressor and inverter.
