Tools and Accessories

This is a list of the things that I bring on an overland expedition or remote camping trip. Some are portable and some are mounted to or stay inside the truck at all times.

High lift jack: Whether it’s for changing a tire or to get a traction board under a truck, I keep a farm jack in the bed.

-Front Bumper: Attached to the front of the truck is a DV8 Offroad Recovery Bumper with a Bullbar.

Winch: Installed in the front bumper is a 10,000 lb. Trail FX Winch with a steel cable.

Recovery Hitch: For safe recoveries I keep a D-ring hitch in the lock box.

Tow-ball hitch: for towing

-Jumpbox/Air compressor: I have an Everstart Maxx Jumpbox with an integrated air compressor and inverter

Walkie-Talkies: Two basic walkie talkies can make a world of difference in communication out in the woods.

Maxsa Innovation Escaper Buddies: I strap my traction boards to the Backrack I had installed to the Chevy.

Jumper cables

Gas can: I also bring a 5 gallon filled gas can for emergencies

BackRack: For extra storage, I have a Backrack headache rack installed behind the back glass.

-Xbull Recovery Kit: This includes 2 shackles, a pulley block, a winch blanket, a shovel, gloves, 3 snatch straps of varying lengths and ratings, and a bag to hold it all.

Toolbox: In the bed is a lock box to store various items.

Tire plug kit: I keep a driver, reamer, wire cutters, and plugs in the toolbox.

Shovel: Useful for digging fire pits or trucks out of a hole.
