Overland Expeditions
This is where all of my saved overland adventures will reside, past runs or future projects. If I’ve driven any section of a route, there will be a travel log immediately below the description. Otherwise, it’s a goal! Use the main menu at the top of the page to navigate through the different trips.
If the route is considered public knowledge, I will add a Gaia GPX file link including tracks and way-points for the particular route. If the route has been developed by an individual (i.e. David Giguere, Georgia Traverse) OR an adventure firm (i.e. Back-country Discovery Routes), then I will provide a direct link to their web-page that will have considerable planning information, updates on the routes, and of course the tracks themselves in GPX format.
To download the GPX tracks from this site, you must have a Gaia GPS account.
Next to the title of each route will be one of the symbols below, designating the difficulty of the track and what vehicles are suitable. Note that this is my personal opinion on what vehicle is realistically applicable and that it’s completely possible that your vehicle is much more capable or much less capable than I know of.
Travel Logs:
-The “minivan” designates it as an “easy” trail, passable by most small SUVs and wagons like Subaru Outbacks, Honda CRVs, etc. Only mechanical necessities may include AWD and good tires in wet conditions.
-The “mid-sized truck” designates it as a moderate trail, passable by stock Jeeps, trucks, and SUVs, but requires a low range transfer case.
The “monster” truck designates it as a difficult trail with sections requiring lift kits and larger tires. If you lack these, have plenty of recovery gear such as winches, traction boards, and a good spare tire with easy access.
